Kinja'd!!!

For my 22nd birthday i would like to go on a road trip with some friends across the USA! Do you any of you lovely people have any suggestions? The trip will last two maybe three weeks. I need some thing that will carry six people in relative comfort, good storage space, and Good fuel economy. I was thinking about buying a used school bus, but i think that would be too big. My budget is around $5K

Sounds like you’re gonna need a van of some sort. What’s your budget?

If you don’t care about overlanding minivan should work. They can be boring but they serve this purpose well.

I and my friend(s) were think about doing similar (excluding the birthday and good fuel economy). We planned to buy some large 60’s land yacht from California, drive it to Florida and have it shipped home afterwards. And braking down on the way has to happen or else it isn’t a proper road trip.

You need a 2013-2015 pathfinder. Everyone get leg room, sits 7 with some space to spare. Good gas milage for a 7 seater crossover. Passing is a breeze, and you get a comfortable ride. And officially it’s not a minivan.

The pathfinder is made to road trip.

Hate to say it but a minivan would be perfect. I got one really like them so...

Try and find a nice Honda Odessey (or however the heck its spelt)

A 90s Town Car has long enough gears that it almost gets minivan economy on the highway. Plus, $3000 buys a lot of gas.

I say find a Previa, because mid-engine and stick! haha

I second the Previa! Because what minivan is cooler than a supercharged, mid-engines, RWD minivan?

Will a town car fit six people?

I do like the 1st gen Odessey because of the car doors.

Well, since the 300SL Gullwing won’t fit your needs, I guess the next best choice would be something like an Odyssey or a Grand Caravan. Really any late-90’s to early 2000s minivan would be a solid choice.

Two benches and a wide car means comfortable seating for six.

Really nice Lotus model. Some really bad ones can still be found rather cheap. And I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t have settle for a single brake down with a cheap Lotus...

Why hasn’t anyone made a racing series with the Previa?

Realistically your vehicle doesn’t exist. Carrying enough stuff for 6 people in and of itself is going to be a challenge, let alone where you’re actually going to put said people. And a vehicle that is big enough to do that is not going to be good on gas, particularly when loaded down with 6 people plus their stuff. Your thought process of a school bus is probably the best solution. You could probably get away with getting a short bus, as you should have ample enough seating with one of them. And you could take out the last row or two of seats for increased storage room. Something like this would be perfect. And you don’t even need the wheelchair lift, so you might be able to find one cheaper. But having rear AC would be a boon for the passengers.

crown vic or dode charger cause people will move out of your way on highways and both are very comfortable highway cruisers

Get a large van, works for touring bands. Benches, room for 6, easy to fix. Not the greatest mpg but for 6 people and things it’s hard to beat. Try to find a diesel and that may get slightly better mpg.

Used minivan. And for $5000, your best bet is probably a used Chrysler van.

Buick Park Avenue, circa 2002 or so. Ultra for supercharged bonus.

Minivan with a roof cargo carrier. The only other thing I could think of is a Flex but I think they will be out of your budget. A school bus will use way too much gas.

You know i can see why you may not want two million dollar car with little visibility, no trunk space, and expensive parts that i probably won’t be able to find on the side of the road at a moments notice.

About 14 or so, but it can be stretched to like 18 on the highway if you find a good 2wd model with the 5.3 and judicious use of cruise control.
